This year Japan will be targeting 950 Minke, 50 endangered Fin whales and possibly 50 humpback whales in the Antarctic IWC whale sanctuary. Approximately about 40% is sold on the market, 20% is stockpiled, 20% is given away free to school children who are forced to eat this under a lunch time program named lets eat whale and the rest placed into pet food and fertiliser. What are you going to do about it? Their fate rests in your hands.... Just follow these 5 basic steps to help saves these whales: http://worldagainstwhaling.org/how-you-can-help/antarctic-campaign.html Video provided by The Oceania Project: http://www.oceania.org.au/ http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOceaniaProject Aqualise is dedicated to safeguarding our oceans. Despite repeated assaults by frustrated and increasingly violent Japanese whalers, the Sea Shepherd ship Steve Irwin continues to stand guard behind the Japanese floating abattoir called the Nisshin Maru. The three Japanese harpoon boats are not in the area but the Sea Shepherd crew is prepared to obstruct them should they return. The Japanese have been accusing Sea Shepherd of trying to obstruct their props with ropes yet the whalers have been trying to do the same thing to the Sea Shepherd ship Steve Irwin. They are accusing the Sea Shepherd crew of throwing rotten butter (which the Japanese refer to as \"acid\") at them yet the whalers are throwing golf balls and chunks of metal at the Steve Irwin crew. In addition, the Japanese are blasting the Sea Shepherd crew with water cannons and Long Range Acoustical weapons - a sonic gun that causes disorientation, nausea and deafness. \"I find it interesting that so called experts and politicians are quick to condemn Sea Shepherd\'s tactics for upholding conservation law yet say not a word about the escalating physical violence directed at us by the whalers who are breaking the law,\" said Captain Paul Watson. \"Their position of siding with the poachers seems to be that if we did not put ourselves in this situation we would not be experiencing such violence. The same could be said for any policeman and Sea Shepherd is not down here to protest whaling, we are down here to obstruct illegal whaling as defined under international conservation law. We are down here to enforce the law, not to break it.\" There is a legal precedent for Sea Shepherd\'s intervention and that is the United Nation World Charter for Nature that allows for non-governmental organizations to uphold international conservation law and in Section 21(e) specifically in areas beyond national jurisdictions. The Japanese whale poachers have the advantage of superior ships, faster, more powerful ships, they have weapons and they have the support of their government that will defend whatever actions they take including the killing of our crew if that should occur. On February 6th, two incidents occurred where the Steve Irwin collided with harpoon vessels as they forced their way past the Steve Irwin\'s blockade in their pursuit of their poaching activities. These collisions were not intentional on the part of Sea Shepherd. \"Earlier we filmed a whale being illegally killed and we watched as that whale endured an agonizing death, thrashing about in its own blood for twenty-five minutes,\" said Captain Watson. \"We view the killing of that whale as cold blooded murder and we are committed to doing everything we can, short of inflicting injuries ourselves, to protect these defenceless, gentle, intelligent and socially complex sentient beings.\" The harpoon boats have not returned to the Nisshin Maru since the last incident occurred at 1800 Hours on February 6th. The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society has made it clear to the government of Australia that our interventions which are becoming increasingly more dangerous because of Japanese aggression can be avoided by Peter Garrett and Kevin Rudd simply making good on their pre-election promise to take the Japanese whalers to court. \"Because Garrett and Rudd have reneged on their promises to us, the people of Australia, we have been forced to defend these whales as Australian citizens in these hostile and remote waters simply because someone has to,\" said Andrew Perry of Hobart, Tasmania. http://worldagainstwhaling.webs.com/ http://www.seashepherd.org/ [More] [Less] |

http://worldagainstwhaling.org/ June 24th, 2009 Funchal, Madeira, Portugal - The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society today officially announced Operation Waltzing Matilda the 6th Sea Shepherd campaign to defend the whales of the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary from Japanese poachers. About 30 members of the media attended the press conference despite the hotel manager insisting that the meeting had to be low profile and held in the back of the lobby hidden by the bar. This is a research project, said Captain Paul Watson. Weve decided to demonstrate our solidarity with the Japanese, Australian, and New Zealand Research projects. Our primary objective is to research non-lethal means for defending whales. Of course this may include research into Japanese ships hull plate thickness, vessel stress tests, and paint chip analysis, as well as observation of whaler behavior in response to olfactory stimulation. To illustrate the research theme of the Sea Shepherd campaign, Sea Shepherd Netherlands Director Laurens de Groot and Sea Shepherd UK Director Steve Roest donned inflatable boats marked research and armed themselves with Styrofoam harpoons to chase IWC delegates. In their attempt to get delegate tissue samples for research purposes, they had difficulty finding elusive Japanese whalers. However, Australian Environment Minister Peter Garrett innocently stumbled into the path of the harpoons and because Australia is apparently voting to support the slaughter of Humpbacks in Greenland, he was considered a legitimate target. The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society will be returning to the Southern Ocean in December for the 6th Antarctic Whale Defense Campaign. This year Sea Shepherd will be sending two ships to the Southern Ocean, the upgraded and fully repaired Steve Irwin and potentially the fast interceptor vessel Earthrace. On board will be an Animal Planet film crew to document the 3rd season of Whale Wars. We are taking the most powerful anti-whaling weapon at our disposal: a film crew, said Laurens de Groot, a Sea Shepherd Netherlands Director. The cameras are more powerful than cannons and our ammunition is the naked truth about illegal whaling. We intend to keep the focus on Japanese crimes and we intend to sink the Japanese whaling fleet economically. An international crew of volunteers will crew the ships to the Southern Ocean but this years campaign will have an Australian face. For this reason the name Operation Waltzing Matilda has been chosen. This is the unofficial national anthem of Australia. Translated from Aussie it means \"hiking with a bedroll or pack.\" Australians are the most passionate whale defenders on the planet, said Captain Watson. Operation Waltzing Matilda will reflect our gratitude to Australia for the incredible support we have received from the people of this wonderful nation since 2005. The Steve Irwin will depart in December from Western Australia with the majority of the crew being Australians. Kylie Herd, a Sea Shepherd crewmember from Perth attending the IWC Conference in Madeira said, Our logo this year is modeled on the art that adorned the fighter planes of the legendary Flying Tigers who fought the Japanese Imperial forces in China. The colors of the Aboriginal and Australian flags have been incorporated into the design with the pirate kangaroo holding Neptunes trident of justice. We intend to waltz down to the Southern Ocean to dance dangerously with the Japanese whaling fleet and we intend to unroll a Matilda full of defensive tactics for the whales against the Japanese whale poachers. Whale Defense Campaign: Operation Waltzing Matilda is scheduled to depart for the Southern Ocean on December 1st, 2009. As usual, Sea Shepherd has some new surprises for the Japanese pirate whalers this year and the whalers will surely have some surprises for Sea Shepherd. The confrontations are escalating as the whalers lose more and more money each year. The Sea Shepherd crew intends to persist and will never retreat from the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary until the last harpoon has been silenced and the word sanctuary is understood once and for all. There is no retreat for Sea Shepherd from the whale wars, there is only victory or defeat for the whales, and we do not intend see the whales defeated, nor do we intend to let these blubber chewing murdering barbarian butchers win. My first Anti-Whaling video to help raise awareness of how cruel and unnecessary whaling is. Help stop whaling and visit http://www.seashepherd.org/ Every donation counts. Why can\'t we just see that whales are beautiful, intelligent animals! Whales are so kind and gentle to us. But what do we give them in return! Nothing but pain!, I am not just talking whaling either! I am also talking about plastic pollution and chemical dumping!( This does not apply to some people just the ones who kill and don\'t act or don\'t care) Watch this video in High Quality it looks much better! I decided to go see the Steve Irwin in Brisbane; this was a unique opportunity as it is currently sealed off to the public for refitting and repairs. So because of the repairs/refitting, the footage on here is of the Steve Irwin is at its worse, its normally tidy... Unfortunately I had to cut a lot of footage as it had crews faces, plans, etc that cant be shown publicly on the net. I hope you understand, I tried my best to place together a video, but its hard to fully show/explain it unless you go visit yourself. For me the tour/discussions on the ship has totally changed my view on things. One very interesting topic we talked about was the arrest warrants we came to the conclusion that Japan knows they don\\\'t need to make the arrest warrants internationally recognised all they need is to keep them going by keep funding the arrests warrants to \\\'scare\\\' future crew away.

While in Santiago, Chile for the 60th Meeting of the International Whaling Commission (IWC), Sea Shepherd Conservation Society officially announced plans to return to the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary to once again oppose illegal Japanese whaling activities. This year\\\'s campaign, Sea Shepherd\\\'s fifth campaign to Antarctic waters, will be called Operation Musashi in reference to the legendary Japanese strategist, Miyamoto Musashi. Musashi\\\'s Book of Five Rings included the approach of the Twofold Way of Pen and Sword. Under two months Japan is coming back to the Antarctic Whale sanctuary for another 1000 whales. This includes endangered species and random sampling. Random sampling is when they hunt any whale they see including calves and mothers. A mother once lost its calf and fasted it self for several days while drifting in the water. Not only does the mother get depressed but through their social networking, which is very complex and can\\\'t be understood by humans, other whales get depressed. The whales they kill in the Antarctic swim right past australia and give birth in our waters. We protect them, then when they are swming back to antarctica the japanese kill them which can take up to 30 mins. These whales were born in Asutralia! What are you going to do Australia? Are you going to let another 1000 whales die?Are you just gonna sit there?TOGETHER WE CAN STOP WHALINGhttp://worldagainstwhaling.webs.com/ [More] [Less] |

THE only protest vessel set to disrupt Japan\\\'s annual whale hunt in Antarctic waters has arrived in Newcastle, December 06, 2008, with crew expecting an even tougher confrontation than last year.Stopping for fuel and oil, Canadian captain Paul Watson said the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society\\\'s vessel, the Steve Irwin, would head off to harass a fleet of eight Japanese whaling ships in the Southern Ocean late on Saturday night.Captain Watson said he was expecting more heated scenes than he experienced a year ago, when two Sea Shepherd activists claimed they were mistreated by Japanese whalers after they boarded a harpoon boat to deliver an anti-whaling letter. After the pair was released, anti-whaling activists admitted to having thrown about 12 stink bombs at a Japanese whaling ship. As soon as we catch up with them (Japanese whalers) I\\\'m sure there will be a confrontation with them, Captain Watson said.We expect the Japanese whalers will be more aggressive this year than last, because they are becoming increasingly more difficult because they are losing more and more money. He said the Rudd Government had not shown support for his attempts to stop Japan\\\'s annual whale hunt.We don\\\'t have any bullet-proof vests because the Australian Government wouldn\\\'t let us bring them in, so that puts our crew\\\'s lives at risk, but we\\\'ll take whatever precautions we can, he said.He described the Government\\\'s attitude towards his mission as hostile. They\\\'ve been very passive-aggressive in trying to force us out of the country, he said.They\\\'ve been totally uncooperative. My crew and I have been hassled about immigration. We didn\\\'t have this problem with the previous government. It\\\'s ironic, considering I actually pushed for so many people to vote for Rudd and (Federal Environment Minister Peter) Garrett.Captain Watson said the Steve Irwin would stop in Hobart for more fuel and oil before it entered the Southern Ocean. He expects to catch up with the Japanese whalers between December 18 and December 25.A third of the 48 crew and passengers on board the Steve Irwin are from Australia. Others are from the US including actress Daryl Hannah and from Japan.Eight of those aboard the vessel are filming a program commissioned by Discovery Channel\\\'s program, Whale Wars.Captain Watson expects to remain at sea from December through to March.

Sea Shepherd\\\'s goal is to send two fast ships to the Southern Ocean with the purpose of continuously keeping the Japanese whaling fleet on the run.\\ [More] [Less] |

SUPPORT - EDUCATE - INFORMWorld Against Whaling was created in 2007 by a user of YouTube - fred100446 - as a mean to create a central petition website that would link all the anti-whaling organisations and campaigns on one site, rather then searching each one seperately. Today Fred is still the founder and owner of WAW.WAW history started on YouTube after Fred labelled one of his many videos - \\ [More] [Less] |
