Description Around 1000 Pilot Whales (Globicephala melaena) and other small whales are killed annually on the Danish island of Faroe. The hunts are called "grindadráp", which translates literally as 'grind', locally as 'pilot whale kill'. The hunters first surround the pilot whales with a wide semicircle of boats. The boats then drive the pilot whales slowly into a bay to be slaughtered on the beaches by hand.
