SUPPORT - EDUCATE - INFORM

WAW LogoWorld Against Whaling was created in 2007 by a user of YouTube - fred100446 - as a mean to create a central petition website that would link all the anti-whaling organisations and campaigns on one site, rather then searching each one separately. Today Fred Page from Sydney Australia is still the founder and owner of WAW.

WAW history all started on YouTube after Fred labelled one of his many videos - "World Against Whaling". After the creation of several videos, hundreds of users subscribed and YouTube was no longer viable to expand and was to restrictive for the listing all the necessary information about whaling. Therefore a 'freewebs' website was created with the title of WAW under the banner of "TOGETHER WE CAN STOP WHALING".

WAW 'freewebs' sites main purpose was just to list petitions, but it became more when people requested to join the WAW team. Since the creation of the free hosted site WAW expanded to multiple social networking sites such as Facebook, Myspace, Vimeo and Care2. WAW also partnered up with several other groups to work together and stop whaling.

WAW membership quickly grew with hundreds of supporters over all WAW web platforms. Due to increasing activity on the 'freewebs' site a larger bandwidth site was needed. Although since we are only a online group with no donation system we could not afford a domain and hosting. Therefore WAW's 'freewebs' site had to be compacted to fit in the requirements of the maximum pages and had to shut down at times to be able to stretch out the bandwidth so we could at least stay open for the whole month.

However during 2009 that all changed and WAW had a turning point to a bright new future, the owner of the now dissolved Sea Shepherd Forums donated the domain 'worldagainstwhaling.org' and also provided free server space to host our site. This allowed us to have more exposure, more traffic and more pages for WAW. Our group grew 900% over the one year alone. However due to increased maintenance costs WAW's website was taken offline due to lack of funds. WAW was offline for about 6 months straight and faced massive reductions in its activity's and memberships. In April 2010 WAW was, at that stage, shut down for good.

It wasn't until August 2010 when WAW's outlook was once again looking bright. In efforts to return and take WAW further, it was decided to enter talks of merging with newly formed Australian registered business "The Vision Group (WA) Pty Ltd". As of September 2010 it was agreed WAW would merge and is now wholly owned by The Vision Group. WAW formed the first of many branches off its parent company and now has several sister groups, including Stop The Grind and Planet Ocean Alliance. This deal has opened all new doors for WAW's future, it allows us to expand much further then ever before and has united us with other similar groups which together we will ultimately be able to help end whaling for good!
